Composed of three artist-performers, Krasna, Belligerency, and King Kovaci, the collective aims to shed light on the difficulties faced by queer people in Eastern and Southern Europe and Western Asia, from where they themselves originate, through various shows, events, and performances. In this series, Steven Cruz stages the members of the collective in a setting that evokes a stereotypical vision of the sports world. We find satirical characters with exaggerated physiques, referencing the standards and expectations we have of the human body, while denouncing the lack of queer representation in sports. During a unifying event supposed to evoke human unity and solidarity, such as the Olympic Games, the underrepresentation and discrimination of queer people remain not only problematic but also taboo. Considering these premises, this collaboration of artists from diverse backgrounds thus stages what LGBTQ+ people are often wrongly accused of: engaging in propaganda with the aim of converting others. Once a place of solidarity, social life, and shared stories, relocation inflicted a deep wound, depriving residents of their former community. Today, 'bairro da Curraleira' stands, but it has lost its voice and vitality. Residents struggle to preserve their memories. A photographic series captures the current precariousness and resilience of those who dream of reclaiming their lost community. They sometimes feel like weeds, unwanted and neglected in a constantly changing city. An art installation echoes these challenges, reflecting the writings on the neighborhood's walls, the fragility of the buildings, the anonymity of the inhabitants, and the signs of dampness. It serves as a poignant reminder of the vulnerability of communities in the face of urban development and the importance of preserving collective memory, even in the ruins of the past. <img The idea behind my work was an observation of the gay subcultures such as gay saunas and other places or ways gay men resort to while on the search for pleasure and anonymity. I draw parallels between intercourse and the consumption of substance. An instinctive, even primitive need linked to survival, but taken to the extreme by society’s oppression of queer people, forbidding them to live out their fantasies or basic sexual attraction shamelessly. Hence, in the center of my work, the reaction of gay men towards systemic humiliation of queer sexual desire, manifesting itself in a hunt for short term pleasure and quick reward, fueled by a suppressed, yet volcanic lust. The color blue stereotypically stands for boys. There is only room for boys/men. A world filled with gluttonous, phantasmagorical characters. The beauty standards viciously imposed by social networks have generated the vain desire to become a living filter, increasing the intensity of body dysmorphia of a whole generation, creating deep malaise, and new behavioural disorders. Are there spaces of freedom beyond this paradigm, where the body can escape perpetual shame and judgment? Or is our body a mere receptacle of sexual desire, designed and manufactured by ourselves to seduce the other? Are we ultimately just pieces of meat, ready to be consumed and used for predatory purposes, voraciously seeking new procreations? Fallen tiles bear witness to known sufferers, while those steadfastly clinging offer refuge to those who suffer in hushed solitude. The melody of "Here comes the Bride" illuminates the societal masquerade of matrimony, often concealing the perpetrators. Through my personal take on the art form of tiles, I wanted to glorify minorities in a post modern way with the traditional Portuguese azulejos. The idea was to create an azuleijo mural suitable for our era. To detach the work from the wall and placing it on the floor symbolises how fragile the concept of masculinity ultimately is. Boys have been told that being «man» means being tough, that it is all about hunting and being in control. By constantly repressing their emotions and giving in to the systematic violence expected from them, they slowly become victims of their own status. locentric society through an all men orgy: Today powerful men flattering each other and deciding over women and oppressed minorities lives. The cis male gaze forbidding any so called «femininity». The toxic cis gay hate towards everything not fully «masculine». In short, men not rising any higher than slightly above the surface. However, elevating themselves from this societal mass grave while emulating the revolutionary figure of Marianne, we observe the oppressed minorities penetrating the higher spheres. Queer men (in my eyes meaning deconstructed non heteronormative men), transgender people, POCs head towards a god-like vulva figure.
